Kintsugi: The Art of Golden Repair

With Susan Dalrymple

Starts Apr 29

Service Description

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum.  In this workshop, we will be using the modern medium of epoxy and gold mica powder.  As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object rather than something to disguise. When applied to people, it can be used to heal that which is broken in a person, proving that someone or something doesn’t have to be beautifully perfect but perfectly beautiful. All supplies are provided, including plates or bowls, but if you have a plate or bowl that you like or find particularly interesting, please feel free to bring it with you. At the end of the workshop, there will be time for a social chat about the Kintsugi philosophy, served with Tea/Coffee & snacks. This workshop is supported by funding from a New Horizons for senior's grant. Date(s): Tuesday, April 29th, 2025  Timing: 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM  Location: Quest Art School + Gallery  Fees: $10.00 (Member Pricing), $15.00 (Non-Member Pricing)
