stephanierbarber

Anastasiia Sakhaltuieva is a professional monumental artist and mosaic specialist whose creative journey has spanned continents and cultures. With a deep passion for combining glass, marble, smalt, and ceramic tiles, she creates works that celebrate light, colour, and form. A member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Anastasiia’s artistic roots are deeply embedded in Ukrainian cultural heritage. Yet, her move to Canada has introduced her to the awe-inspiring beauty of Canadian nature, which continues to fuel her work. With over 100 mosaic workshops conducted worldwide, Anastasiia’s latest adventure brings her to Quest Art School + Gallery as an Art Is Love Artist-in-Residence. Through this residency, she aims to inspire and connect with new people, pushing the boundaries of mosaic art while continuing to explore and share her unique vision. Read Anastasiia's profile below and be sure to visit her in our Art Is Love space at 33 King Street in Midland, where she will be working alongside fellow artist Charlotte Sprague for the duration of January and February! __________________________________________________________________________________ My name is Anastasiia Sakhaltuieva. I am a professional monumental artist and a painter with a deep passion for mosaic art. I have been creating art since the age of 16. I had the honour of studying at several prestigious institutions, including the European School of Design in Kyiv, the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, and the Dnipro Theatre and Art College. My artistic journey led me to create works that combine glass, marble, smalt, and ceramic tiles, and I became fascinated by the grandeur, vibrancy, and decorative qualities of mosaics. I created my first mosaic artwork during my third year at the Academy. I was a copy of an angel from St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. From that moment, I was captivated by the mosaic technique. Since then, I have worked on numerous mosaic projects, exploring the interplay of materials, light, and colour. Mosaics allow me to express things that would be impossible to convey on a canvas, and I enjoy experimenting with shapes, colours, and textures.

My works have been showcased in exhibitions both in Ukraine and abroad:

  • 2000: Participation in the All-Ukrainian art exhibition “Picturesque Ukraine,” Ivano-Frankivsk.

  • 2001: Participation in All-Ukrainian art exhibitions in Kyiv, dedicated to Ukraine’s Independence Day and the themes of “Chernobyl” and “Artist’s Day.”

  • 2002: Participation in the All-Ukrainian Art Exhibition “Women of Ukraine - Artists,” Kyiv.

  • 2005: Solo exhibition at the “Griffon” gallery, Kyiv — “The State of Love” and my diploma project: stained glass “Garden of Angel Songs.”

  • 2006: Solo exhibition “Search for Love,” gallery, Kyiv.

  • 2007: Participation in the “Triennale,” Kyiv, and the solo exhibition “Good Mood in the Looking Glass” at the “Artist” gallery.

  • 2023: Exhibitions in Antwerp, Belgium: a show at Blickfabrik Gallery-Cafe with the support of Feel Home EU; show “Songs of Freedom” in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Telex Gallery.

  • 2024: Solo exhibition at The Arts House.

I think it is important for every artist to continue to evolve in various techniques and create new ways to express her or his artistic vision. I keep finding and exploring new materials and methods, and that expands the horizons of my art. I came from oil and acrylic paints to stained glass and porcelain tiles and pieces of natural stones in search of vibrant images that bring joy, elevate the mood of a viewer, and enhance the interiors of a home or an office. I combine traditional techniques and new ideas and experiment with new shapes and forms, from large wall décor objects to small table decorations. My artworks evolve as I become older, wiser, and (hopefully) more mature person.

As a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, I bring Ukrainian rich cultural heritage to my work. Also, as I live in Canada now, I draw inspiration from my new, beautiful surroundings. My favourite themes are the sun and the moon, the cosmos, women, and nature. And Canadian nature is stunning! I see my mosaics as a celebration of light, colour, and form, and I am looking forward to continuing my exploration of these elements through projects that push the boundaries of what is possible in mosaic art. I have conducted over 100 mosaic workshops worldwide, sharing my passion with diverse audiences. In these workshops, I helped participants explore the potential of mosaic art and its unique ability to change depending on light and texture. I encourage others not to be afraid to step outside their comfort zones.

A residency or new project is a chance for experimentation, to find inspiration in unexpected places, and to make meaningful connections. For me, every new experience leads to growth, and I am excited to see where my next creative endeavours will take me.

I hope to connect with new people. I hope to exchange ideas and artistic visions and that we will continue inspiring each other through workshops, collaborations, and exhibitions. I always strive to create works that deeply resonate with people, and I will be happy to become a part of the QuestArt community. My long-term goal and dream is to create art that inspires me, and I believe that every step in this journey — through this residency, new materials, or fresh ideas — brings me closer to fulfilling my dream.
