Recognized for age-friendly efforts, Quest unveils youth initiative

'We’ve heard just how much of a need there is for youth programming in our community," Quest executive director says. 'By involving local youth directly in shaping it, we’re ensuring that what we offer truly resonates with them.'

Fresh off being recognized as one of the county’s best age-friendly organizations, Quest Art School + Gallery is launching its first-ever youth committee.

“Young people bring fresh ideas, energy, and perspective to the arts,” Quest executive director Lawrence Sagar explains.

“We’ve heard just how much of a need there is for youth programming in our community, and by involving local youth directly in shaping it, we’re ensuring that what we offer truly resonates with them.” The youth committee is open to creative and community-minded young people aged 13 to 18 who want to make their voices heard and take an active role in shaping arts programming in North Simcoe.

On Tuesday evening, Quest was recognized by the County of Simcoe as a recipient of the government's 2025 Age-Friendly Recognition Awards.

The annual awards, which also recognized local groups North Simcoe Arts and Chigamik Community Health Centre, along with Beth Dubeau from Penetanguishene, at Tuesday’s event, were created to celebrate individuals and businesses who have made outstanding contributions to creating inclusive, accessible, and supportive environments for older adults across the region.

“These awards highlight the power of community-driven change,” says Jane Sinclair, the county’s health and emergency services general manager Jane Sinclair says.

“The recipients are not just meeting the needs of older adults, they’re re-imagining what it means to age with dignity, purpose, and connection. Their leadership is helping build communities where age is embraced as a strength, and we are proud to recognize their contributions."

As for the Quest youth project, the committee will meet monthly, with the first meeting slated for next month. Working alongside Quest staff and volunteers, committee members will have the chance to transform ideas into action and create meaningful opportunities for youth engagement across the region by collaborating on planning fun and impactful youth-focused events and activities.

“This is a chance for teens to leave their mark, grow their confidence, and gain hands-on experience in community building,” says Quest board member Kelly Lapham, who also serves as the youth committee lead.

“Committee members will also have unique opportunities to work alongside our team and develop valuable skills in curating, event planning, marketing, social media and public relations. It’s about empowering youth with tools and  experiences that will serve them well into the future.”

Applications to be part of the youth committee can be submitted until October 20 through the organization’s website.
