Expressive Mark-Making Using Tools With Justina Chan-Lovatt This class will focus on the exploration of expressive mark-making in painting, utilizing tools such as Princeton Catalyst Silicon Wedges. Justina will share how she simplifies complex details into shapes and manipulates paint on the canvas to create dynamic and emotive artwork. This class combines hands-on practice with theoretical understanding, encouraging participants to experiment and develop their own expressive styles, empowering participants to explore their creativity through unconventional tools in a method of painting. They will gain confidence in their ability to express themselves artistically, simplifying complexity into vibrant and dynamic works of art. Materials: 2 Canvas 18x24 Acrylic paint and medium (fluid or gel) A Catalyst Silicone Wedge No. 1, and another mark-making tool ,such as a palette knife, an old/unused gift card. Justina Chan Lovatt is an artist based in Midland who is inspired by nature’s beauty through landscapes, flora, and fauna. With 30 years of experience, her artistic journey has transitioned from traditional Chinese Brush Painting to abstract landscapes and floral works. Justina emphasizes energetic brushwork to capture the mood of her subjects, inviting a shared appreciation among her audience.
